Confusion and Issues with Classes on 23rd-24th April weekend.

Dear All,

I know that over this past weekend all of us faced numerous technical challenges in participating in our classes via Online Videoconferencing mode. Allow me to put forth my/our take on the same.

- I am on leave, as you are aware, but have specially come to campus today to gain clarity about the same.
- I have just spoken to Dr Sherry, our Director about the same as well.

Points:

1. Cisco Webex, our old system was giving us numerous challenges related to recordings, clarity, quality and other tech glitches.
2. We migrated to Adobe Connect in light of the same.
3. Since this weekend was the first time we had used Adobe, any tech issues spotted were of a challenge to us as well since we were not fully familiar. Webex we had been using for the past 3 years and knew how to treat it properly.
4. We have raised so much hell at Adobe that those guys rushed a technical patch to us to cure the repeated flickering/restarts and PPT display issues.
5. We will also now have a Adobe Tech Rep with us during the whole weekend to directly help us in case of any unforeseen errors.
6. We have spent the the whole of yesterday testing and firming up the system to avoid glitches and issues.

My Take:

1. First of all, I am sorry, you guys became the guinea pigs, but somebody had to become that. :(
2. I must also appreciate your restraint and fortitude in bearing with us. Barring the IMT-57 cancellation, all other classes went of reasonably well considering the tech challenges.
3. I would also ask you guys to check your emails ID's in the system. Pls login to the Student Homepage and check your email ID. In case there is some issue with the same, then pls fill up the form here (link - https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHh0M2lkZHZ2U3NVWTlNcmU3Sy04OXc6MQ)
4. I will speak to the relevant faculty for reslotting the missed class of IMT 57 and will advice you all about the change soon.

just wish to inform you that due to the fact that Prof. Chhavi is participating in the Marketing Workshop in Delhi, so she may take some travelling time to get to Ghaziabad.

So the class timing has been slightly altered to be now from 1500 to 1800.

Class Links


Dear All,

as I mentioned earlier, we are in the process of a system upgrade for the online classes and I am glad to inform you that we have migrated to an Adobe systerm for the Online Classes.

However, as a result of this change and associated tech changes, I will no longer be sending you the links for the classes before the respective classes.

The links will now come directly from the server so I would advice you to pls check in your spam box as well in case of non-receipt of the links before the classes.

In case you do not receive the class links before the class (lets say 2 hours before the scheduled start), then pls send a mail to Mr Dayal atpdayal@imtcdl.ac.in or Mr Surbeen at surbeen@imtcdl.ac.in or you may call the IT Deptt at 0120-3015484. 

These would be the guys to contact in case of such queries since now I would not have a copy of the class links. 

In case there are any other contact details that are available, I will let you all know.

MR (IMT 03) class on 24th April, 0900-1200

Dear All,

as you are aware that IMT-CDL is hosting a workshop on Marketing and the prof. for MR, Prof. Chhavi Taneja, has been invited/selected to speak at the same workshop. Since the timings clash with those of the workshop, we have decided to call off the class on 24th April in light of the same.

So, there is NO class for MR on 24th April. All other classes, electives and core would retain their timetable unless communicated otherwise by me. The timetable would be shared on the blog.

Dear All,

as you are aware, the Online programs that we offer and I coordinate have grown in leaps and bounds with your support.

Now what has happened is that I am a faculty as well as your coordinator and when I have classes over the weekend as I do nowadays, it is very nearly impossible for me to address individual mails related to class schedules and certain queries that many of you guys raise with a similar vein or concern. I try to manage with looking at the emails on my cell, but time is limited between classes and I do travel quite a lot as well and since my phone has a mini browser, it does not support group email and with gmail, if I send many mails in one go, it blocks sending from my email account and suspects me as a spammer. :(

For the same reason, since I am in class, I do not answer my cell as well when you guys call. It looks and is probably frustrating for you when I am not available as per your needs, but I hope you do understand the my constraint of not answering my phone while I'm in class. That is why I am exploring new options through automation so things like the automated forms and the blog are being worked upon.  

All of this is intended to show that it does not mean that we will not remain in touch and all, but I would request you all that for the sake of ease and convenience, pls look at the blog first (www.imtcdlonlinecourses.blogspot.com). In case there is general concern, I would probably have addressed it already and as for the timetable, I make it a point to update the relevant and respective classes batch wise over each weekend on Friday itself. 

Kindly have a look at the blog also in a general manner and pls suggest any changes that may make it better for you all. 

Class Recordings

Dear All,

as you are aware, there had been some confusion about the availability of the recordings of the classes for the past 2 weekends (09th-10th April and 16th-17th April).

Recordings for some of the classes were available, some weren't. Those that were available faced some accessibility problems.

I would like to inform you all that we have recently undergone a systems upgrade so this problem needn't be there anymore.

Anyways, we have now decided to give all the recordings to you in the form of a disc that you guys can retain with you. The detailed modalities would be soon worked out, but suffice to say that based upon the schedules of the respective batches, you may get one disc right now with a few papers (all 4 recordings) and the rest will follow once the classes are over in May or you may get one composite disc since a couple of courses have all classes being completed by approx 1st week of May.

Whatever is the respective plan, pls look here later on for any further details.

Assignments

Dear All,

pls note that your assignments are of a multiple choice pattern and would be available via online mode on our website. Tentative dates are May or July as per technical feasibility.

All assignments on our website right now pertain to the handwritten assignments and are not applicable you all. 

Submission of Projects

Dear All,

as you all move towards Sem 4 (2yr APGDM, Jan 2010) and Sem 2 (1yr PGEM, Jan 2011), I would like to remind you that in order to successfully complete the course, you guys are required to work on a project based upon the area of specialization (for Sem 4 APGDM, Jan 2011) or the area of your interest (for Sem 2, PGEM Jan 2011). This is a COMPULSORY requirement.

The process is as follows:
1. You need to submit a synopsis of your project (as per guidelines)
2. The synopsis would evaluated by faculty members from the respective area of the topic
3. You would then receive the annotated version back
4. Need to execute the project
5. Prepare and submit a project report
6. Appear for a viva

The tentative timeline for your reference is as follows:

1. Submission of Synopsis - 15th August, 2011 (without late fees) and 30th August, 2011 (with late fees)
2. Submission of Project report - 30th November, 2011
3. Project Viva - 1st/2nd week of Jan 2012

Project Synopsis and Report Guidelines are there in the Student Homepage section of our IMTCDL website.
Pls go through the same for clarity or you may revert back to me for any clarifications doubts etc.  

Tentative Dates for Exams, June, 2011

as of now, exam dates have not been finalised but there a tentative timeline that we can use to get our heads around the dates.

Tentative Start Date - After 10th June
Tentative End Date - Before 28th June. 

Project Reports Submission

Dear All,

many of you (2yr APGDM, July 2009 Sem 4 and 1yr PGEM July 2010 Sem 2) have your project submissions in this semester.

You have submitted your synopsis and you would have recd the checked ones by now as well.

Pls note that the timelines for the Project Submission are as below:
1. Submission of Project report - on/before 30th May, 2011
2. Project Viva - Approx 2nd Week of July, 2011.

For the project viva your presence would be required at IMT-CDL, Ghaziabad or any other locations to be designated by us.

Marketing Workshop by IMT-CDL on 24th April, 2011

Dear All,

I had mentioned it in the class yesterday and will recap,

IMT-CDL is holding a Marketing Workshop (based on Marketing paper in Sem 1).
We are having eminent people from the industry and IMT-CDL faculty to provide you with an idea of Marketing Concepts and their real-life applications. This would be useful for all of us, whether we are Sem 1 students or have moved on from Sem 1.

This will also help us to come a bit closer to our distance learning students and would help to strengthen our relationship and stimulate your academic interests as well.

All of you are cordially invited, but due to a paucity of available seats, you guys would need to register with us. There is also a nominal registration fees of Rs 200/- per person.

It will be a day long session, with lunch and tea breaks. A Certificate of Participation would also be given to you.

Attendance Tracker

Dear All,

I have recd a lot of queries from you all regarding the attendance marking and problems while trying to log into the classes. 

Instead of you sending me individual mails that I have to later collate and go case-by-case wasting a lot of time in the process and when I ask for details, some of you are not able to remember which classes you missed, for how long and for what reason; I have decided to run an online form for tracking the same.


This form will help us streamline the data remembering part and make life easier for all of us. Thats the theory atleast :) 





Pls note the following points with regard to the marking of the attendance. 

1. You have to log in within half-an-hour from the start of the class (For Eg. 1400-1700, join in before 1430)
2. You need to stay atleast till the last half-hour (For Eg. 1400-1700, do not leave before 1630)

The server will not mark your attendance if you login late or leave early. 


Of course, since this is a new initiative, your comments and suggestions for improving upon the same are welcome.

Dear All,
in continuing with our endeavour to improve and enhance our course admin, I have started this blog to provide a place to summarize and collate all info that we share amongst ourselves for the conduct and administration of the course.
